SWITCH ON YOUR RUN
And just like that, summer is over. It’s getting progressively harder to get out of bed in the morning as the later sunrise and crisp temperatures have me wanting to hit the snooze button. But there is something special about starting a run in darkness and being part of the sunrise.
I love the hushed tones of the world waking up and watching homes come alive as I run by. Even on the most routine of mornings, the sun rise is spectacular. Plan your route to have an unobstructed view of the horizon and experience one of my favorite "meteorological moments": the green flash in the sky the moments before the sun crests. In an instant, the sun's rays start speeding westward, lighting everything in its path. Day has begun.
Just be sure you dress more like a firework display on the 4th of July than Johnny Cash. That means making sure you can see AND be seen. Carry a light source like a flashlight or headlamp so you can see those bumps in the road/sidewalk and wear reflective gear to enhance a driver’s ability to see you. Add blinking lights in front and back as well as high and low on your body to boost your ability to be seen.
If you run in low light conditions (dawn, dusk and cloudy days), you aren’t off the hook. Dress like a human highlighter by wearing bright colors. The key is to stand out from your surroundings.
Remember too to always be on the offensive when you run. Don’t zone out and let your mind wander. Run facing traffic and keep your head up. If you must listen to music, consider wearing just one earbud or use Aftershokz wireless bone-conduction headphones so you can still hear the ambient noise around you.
The same rules apply when you take your dog out for a walk.
Need to update your gear? Check out our “brilliant” safety and high visibility products. We’ve got everything from the basics to super fancy rechargeable optic vests that weigh less than 3oz.
Light it up this fall!

ASICS GLIDERIDE
As new running shoes promise improved efficiency through technology, ASICS is doing it through shape.
The brand-new GlideRide from ASICS uses their proprietary “Glidesole” technology that features two layers of foam that curve sharply upward at the toe. This rocker shape helps propel you forward and allows you to move smoothly and efficiently through your stride. It also reduces ankle flexion which decreases the amount of work your other leg muscles have to do to keep you moving.
Officially the GlideRIde is a neutral running shoe with a 5mm heel-to-toe drop, but the mechanics of the shoe helps create a stable platform so those who wear stability shoes may find this shoe to work for them as well.
This shoe is expected to arrive in-store on Thursday, but you can call to reserve your pair now (860-233-8077). $150
