TIRED LEGS -
FULL HEARTS & BELLIES
I am once again humbled by the generousity of our community. We set a goal to collect 500 jars of peanut butter to distribute to local food banks thinking that maybe that was a little aggressive. But you all came through one, two...ten jars of peanut butter at a time.
I was especially heartened by the area gyms and companies who joined in the fun to host collections of their own and bring a team to the Burpee Challenge: Hartford Sweat (who donated 153 jars of peanut butter!), Horizon Personal Training, Orange Theory Fitness, Lifer, CrossFit Hartford, CrossFit Playground, CrossFit Gridiron, Travelers Championship, Key Hyundai and Great Point Financial Management/Udal Family who were amazing partners in bringing this fundraiser to life.
The second part of our fundraiser, the Burpee Challenge, was equally remarkable as teams worked together to do one burpee for each jar collected. Yup. 827 burpees!
Special shout out to Team Fleet Feet for coming out in force so we "just" had to do 55 burpees each - and to staffer Toni, who with her friend Nate, split ALL the burpees between the two of them. That's a lot of burpees!
In total, the event raised over $5,000 for Foodshare - which equates to 12,500 meals! As amazing as that is, the best part of this whole fundraiser came on Monday morning when the local food bank near Elizabeth park came to pick up the jars of peanut butter.
The driver of the van looked incredulously at the tower of jars and tears welled up in his eyes. He told us that peanut butter is a favorite item at his food bank but always in short supply. In fact, he gave away his last jar on Sunday morning and a few families walked away disappointed that there wasn't any left. Because of you, he won't have to turn anyone down for many weeks.
Every jar counts. Every jar makes a difference to someone.
