BOOST YOUR HEALTH
We all know that exercise is a major part of living a healthy life, but did you know that engaging in the arts – like going to a museum or theater – may also help you live longer, soothe chronic pain, hold off symptoms of dementia and lower hypertension?
A study in the British Medical Journal found just that after following several thousand people over a 14-year period. The researchers discovered that those who visit a museum, see a play or go to a concert every few months had a 31% reduced risk of dying. Reasons cited include reduced loneliness, boosted emotional intelligence and promoting a non-sedentary lifestyle.
Results from a US study released in 2017 found that adults aged 55 or older who did not patronize the arts had higher rates of hypertension and cognitive decline than those who did.
In our efforts to create and support a healthy community, we have partnered with Playhouse on Park in West Hartford to host a special “Runner’s Night” on Thursday, March 5 at 7:30pm to see the updated production of Jane Austen’s Pride & Prejudice.
Don’t worry, this version isn’t formal and stuffy – in fact, critics and “average Joe’s” are raving about this laugh-out-loud, heartwarming modernized version where the characters dance The Hustle at the ball. The play might even inspire you to re-read this classic book!
If you’ve never been to Playhouse, you are in for a treat. The intimate theater only seats 163 people with the back row just being four rows from the stage. Ticket prices are a reasonable $30-40 and can be purchased here or by calling 860-523-5900.
Hope to see you there!
