Day 2 of the 2022 Fleet Feet Cross Country Classic was full of friendly competition and sheer determination. Despite a recent heat wave and little relief from the aggressive late-August sunshine along Parkway Central’s hilly course, runners showed their tenacity through tough conditions.

The boys varsity race had a tight front pack led by Christian Brothers College junior Devon Alexander (1st, 10:57) and senior Conner Wunderlich (10:58). The next runners quickly trickled in behind them, as the following five times fell within a mere 6 seconds of each other.
These narrow finishes made for close final scores and a lively awards ceremony. As the announcer winded down to the top few spots, cheers oscillated from Parkway Central to Chaminade and back to Parkway Central.

The hunt for the girls team trophy ultimately came down to depth rather than front pack strength. With just six teams eligible for scoring, the top-3 were able to place using a solid middle pack dispersed throughout the top-30.
