All you have to do is believe!
|
Over the course of the past eighteen weeks you have subjected your body to mile after mile of strength and courage building. Your coaches have guided you along the way. Now it's time to believe. You may have encountered a bump or a bruise along the way. But here you stand. Your starting line awaits, and the finish line is calling. You are ready. Your legs got you here. But week after week you built much more than strength and endurance. You started with a goal that may have seemed out of reach. Each week that goal drifted in and out of reach. Confidence breaking down, then coming back stronger than ever. You survived the toughest summer days we have endured as a group. Your longest workouts were on the hottest, most humid days we could throw at you. You doubted whether you could go on at times. But your coaches and MIT family reminded you that you could. So, on you went. Mile after mile you changed. You grew stronger. You grew more confident. Now your race is here, and you are ready. The human body is composed of 206 bones. Sixty-four bones make up your shoulders and arms. Sixty-two of these bones make up everything from your waist down. Eighty of them make up your axial skeleton, which effectively protects and supports your heart, your lungs, your brain. Whether you are covering 13.1 or 26.2 miles all 206 bones are working in unison to propel you towards that finish line you've worked so hard for. Your legs are ready. You've got a healthy set of lungs. You've got a strong heart. Your goal is yours for the taking. All you have to do is believe. Jeff

Welcome to the week before the week before. If you still get excited about December 30th (New Year’s Eve “Eve”), then this will be a great week for you. It has all the excitement of race preparation, tapering, planning, and weather stalking without the nervousness of race week jitters. Fit For Life Physical Therapy and Marathoner in Training have a few thoughts to help you navigate these next 7 days. 1. Enjoy the taper! Last week we shared Fit For Life’s Joe Simko’s medical side of allowing the taper to work for you. This week we’re sharing a hallmark tapering article from Jeff Henderson’s coaching perspective. h 2. Set your plan for nothing new on race day! Plan to wear the clothes you picked out for race day and have trained in already. Plan to eat what you’ve been eating the night before and morning of our long training runs and walks. Get the rest you’ve been getting on Friday nights but remember that the days leading up to that pre-race night will be super important for extra rest also. 3. Enough about the weather. Even though you need to be aware of and prepare for the race day weather forecast, there is nothing you can do to change the weather. No need to check the weather app every hour. No need to get frantic. Just get to the starting line with your goals in mind…the weather will be whatever the weather is going to be. 4. Trust your training. The Marathoner in Training program is tailored to get you ready for race day. Together we have worked for 20 weeks to get you to the starting line. You are ready! Set your race-day goals (such as one that is an audacious target in the best case scenario, one that you’ll be proud of and still wear your race shirt to work on Monday, and one that “you’ll take” and still be able to sleep at night). Now go, run, and trust your training. Enjoy the week! See you Saturday for one more group training session. Fit For Life Physical Therapy is proud to be Fleet Feet + FrontRunner’s physical therapy partner. We will keep you moving – no matter what you do.
