How is your family? Too often this question gets tossed out there with little to no meaning, much in the way you ask how the weather was on someone's vacation, or as simple as how's it going?
What I love about my MIT family, and my Fleet Feet + FrontRunner family is that for many of us it has become our home away from home, a support network much like our own families. And for a few of us, our own families and our MIT families have some overlap.
I love that on a Monday I'm going to get a text from Ryan Moran, who heads up our trail running group, asking if we are going for a run. If I don't respond he hounds me until I meet him at some random trail head. On Wednesday's I see the speed workout crew. On Thursday's I get to run with my brother Andy and the Fleet Feet Fam at our morning staff run. Saturday's I get to see my mom and brother, sometimes my dad or my incredible wife and daughter, AND all of you!
Perhaps what I love even more are the countless stories I hear from MITers that sound much like the story above. For some, you didn't know anyone in Columbus until you started with MIT. For others, you started on your own, then a spouse or sibling joined you along the way. For many of you, you fell in love with this because of the suggestion of a friend or co-worker.
The beauty of it all is that we are all surrounded by our respective families. At home and on the running and walking paths. We are never out there alone. Some days are going to be tough, but they are a hell of a lot better with the support of our family. Our running and walking families will run through hell and back for us. Cherish that. Our family at home gives up a lot, and puts up with a lot in order for us to spend hours on the trails with our running and walking peeps. Be thankful for that.
So, how is your family? I can't wait for you to tell me on Saturday!
Jeff

Fit For Life Physical Therapy Marathoner in Training Education
|
This past Saturday the RunDoc, MIT’s own Dr Darrin Bright was back with a fantastic talk on Heart Rate Guided training. If you were there, then you know it could be a training method that may help you. If you were not there, but have been training for more than a season or two without improving your personal record, you should strongly consider reviewing this talk and adopting a heart rate guided training program. Dr Bright’s slides from Saturday can be accessed here! Many MIT runners and coaches have had success with VO2Max testing and proper Heart Rate Guided training. If you’re ready to join them, contact McConnell Heart Health Center or Baseline Fitness for a VO2Max test to obtain the individualized prescription of your Heart Rate training zones.
Our next Fit For Life Physical Therapy – MIT Education Program is on Saturday July 28th at 6:00 a.m. Please join us at FrontRunner in Worthington when another fellow MITer, Allison Labyk, will give her Newbie University Nutrition & Hydration talk.
Together let's have a great MIT season as we work towards our autumn half marathons and marathons. If we can assist you with injury prevention, maintenance, or rehabilitation, please feel free to contact Fit For Life Physical Therapy at (614) 981-1979 or www.fitforlifephysicaltherapy.com
