Congratulations to everyone who raced at Athens and Boston!

From Boston to Athens we couldn’t be more proud of all our runners! Medals, and PRs only tell a fraction of the story. The friendships and lessons learned over the miles will last forever! Can’t wait to see what Cap City brings!

Walking A Tight Rope
This is the point in the season that I'm always reminded of my love/hate relationship with this period of the training schedule. Our peak mileage weeks heading into the taper can be some of the most exhilarating and simultaneously frustrating periods of training. One day you feel fantastic; you are ready to run off into the sunset. The next; you feel like your next step could derail all your progress.
I'm also remembering that this is completely normal and expected. Some of us will experience to greater or lessor extent, but this period of training puts us all on high alert.
A couple years back I had started mountain biking, and was boasting about my epic falling abilities to Laura Comtois, one of our amazing PT's with Fit for Life PT. Terrified doesn't even begin to accurately describe my fear of riding over most of the bridges on the Alum Creek Mountain Bike Trails. Laura's advice was simple and effective, "Don't focus of what your afraid of falling off of, instead focus on where your going next." Life changing. Seriously. Instead of staring straight down into the seeming abyss beneath the bridge I started looking ahead. All the fear swept aside... or at least most of it ;)
Look ahead. See yourself crossing your finish line. Those little aches and pains, the questions doing a tempo workout in your noggin, they only affect you if you give them more attention than their due. Stay the course. Keeping looking ahead. Know that you are ready for race day. The miles behind you have prepared for the miles that lay ahead.
See you at the next workout.
Jeff

Each year Massachusetts celebrates Patriots’ Day, a holiday commemorating the opening battle of the American Revolutionary War in Lexington and Concord. Their weekend of events includes parades, reenactments, commemorative ceremonies, and the 11:00 a.m. first pitch for the Red Sox game. And, of course, the Boston Marathon runs from Hopkinton to Boylston Street near Copley Square. While you're enjoying Boston Marathon Monday, watching the race, and tracking your favorite runners, your thoughts may be turning towards your personal goal race. Whether you are competing in the Cap City Half Marathon, the Glass City Marathon, or another spring classic, we've got the perfect newsletter, injury screenings, and education session to help you prepare for that goal race! This Tuesday, April 16, 2019, we will celebrate Ohio Race Prep Day with our MIT-FFL Education Session. Capital City Half Marathon race director, David Babner, will be at FrontRunner to provide customers a course overview and some insider tips. We will continue the discussion with Race Day & Travel-Wise Tactics by MIT Coaches Dave Calvert, Randy Olson, and Sean Huffman. You will leave this session with a detailed strategy for your race, including what to pack and what to do...and maybe a bit of what not to do. We will host this at FrontRunner on Lane Avenue, Tuesday April 16 from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. To help you prepare for this session, please take a moment to read this. For that final pre-race tune up, Fit For Life Physical Therapy will offer Free Runner and Walker Injury Screenings at our Lane Avenue – FrontRunner location from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., prior to our education program. The Fit For Life clinicians will review your symptoms, answer your questions, and assist you with advice for your next steps towards your race’s starting line. To schedule, please call or text us at 614–981–1979. Fit For Life Physical Therapy is proud to be Fleet Feet + FrontRunner’s physical therapy partner. We will keep you moving – no matter what you do. Race Strategy Whether you are racing a half or full marathon it is critical that you have a plan for race day.
